best things i did/ate last week (halloween fun, boiling crab, daylight savings, etc.)

(Week of October 26th)

I can't believe it's Halloween already!  Soon it will be Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then a whole new year!  Time really does seem to pass more quickly as one gets older...

Since it was the week of Halloween, the best things I did were pretty much related to that holiday.  I don't have kids so Halloween for me means dressing up and partying with friends and touring around our neighborhood to see the amazing decorations that go up every year.  So the best things this week?

  • Dressing up as Black Widow from the Avengers, but looking more like Carrot Top in a bodysuit.  The wig was crazy!  At least the bodysuit was comfortable.

  • Co-hosting a Halloween shindig with a friend (catered by Thyme Cafe - tasty food, punctual delivery and nice presentation.  I would definitely consider using them again.).  Great fun seeing friends dressed up as always.  The amount of alcohol that was finished was rather astonishing...
  • Our annual walk through Hancock Park - there is a particular house on Rimpau Blvd that goes above and beyond every year.  It's literally like a horror movie set, complete with dry ice fog, sound effects, and hired actors dressed up as zombies, scary clowns, werewolves, Freddy Krueger, etc. etc.  I noticed they even had the American Horror Story clown from last season - creepy!  Sorry for the bad picture quality but hopefully you can get the gist (below).

  • Extra hour of sleep - Yes daylight savings happens every year, but I do enjoy that extra hour of sleep - especially after a weekend of too much partying and drinking.  "Fall back" is always the best!  So much better than "Spring forward".  I spent most of Sunday lounging in bed and it was awesome!

As for food, I was still detoxing for the week and watching my food intake so I didn't have that many exciting meals.  The most memorable meal this week was probably Boiling Crab (in Koreatown).  Seafood in bags with tons of spices.  (Note of warning - even the "nonspicy" option is a bit spicy so order carefully.)  Soooo tasty and messy.  We always get the shrimp and the clams with potatoes, corn and sausage.  This time it was even better because we got it delivered through the new doordash service.  It's so convenient to have tasty food delivered, piping-hot, to your home.  Sometimes you just don't want to have to get dressed to go out...
